Val Vega is a filmmaker and creative director from Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, known for her striking visual style and ability to craft compelling narratives. She began her career directing music videos for major labels such as Sony Music, Capitol Records, and Warner Music, collaborating with some of the industry’s most promising artists. This early work shaped her distinctive aesthetic while providing invaluable on-set experience.
Currently, Val serves as the creative director for Puerto Rican artists Joyce Santana and Lyanno. She spearheaded Santana’s rebrand as he launched his first album with Rimas Entertainment and is now leading Lyanno’s artistic evolution as he enters a new phase of his career.
Fueled by the lack of Latinx representation in film and television, Val set out to merge her vivid imagery with impactful storytelling. Her short film, MELAO—inspired by her great-uncle, a sugarcane worker in 1950s Puerto Rico—premiered at the 2024 HollyShorts Film Festival at the historic Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
Val is dedicated to telling authentic Latinx stories without stereotypes, centering narratives deeply rooted in her community. She is committed to working with Latinx talent both in front of and behind the camera, ensuring that her culture’s stories are told with depth, nuance, and integrity.
